In this issue we rate the top 10 buildings and accessories from the Department 56 Halloween Village collection. The Halloween Village buildings have been designed with incredible detail, captivating subject matter, animation, spooky music, haunting sound effects, colorful lighting and use of spooky trees and shrubs piece after piece. It just blows me away every time. Selecting pieces for these lists was very difficult because nearly every piece in this village series is highly collectible and on the rise.

Whether purchased new or from the secondary market the Halloween Village is an outstanding investment and wonderful holiday decoration. Virtually the entire series is either on the rise or going to increase in value once a bit more time passes. The series really has it all. I wouldn’t be turned off by pieces that remain flat in price or the two pieces that decreased this year. I have no idea why the Haunted Barn is on the downward list because it is an outstanding piece packed with spooky lighting and haunting sound effects. It’s charming and spooky. If you are designing a “hay-filled” haunted farm scene the barn is a must and an absolute winner in my opinion. The Hauntsburg House is a little bland but properly decorated looks fabulous on a Halloween layout especially if you need to add homes to your display. After all the ghost and goblins have to live somewhere! It’s one of only nine residences included in the Halloween Village series. Bottom line, you won’t go wrong collecting this anything in this village.
